gen-sym

This function is identical to cl:gensym except that a symbol is accepted as its optional argument (as well as the standard string or integer), in which case the symbol-name is used. This is useful for programs that are intended for use in either ansi or modern lisps, where it is desired to print any gensyms without requiring escapes. See case.htm for information on ANSI and modern case modes.
