1. New macros anticipate Symmetric Multiprocessing

Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) is a new feature in the upcomping
Allegro CL release 9.0. Code that works correctly in the current
non-SMP Lisp may fail in an SMP Lisp. Code that depends on the
object-locking side effect of preventing interrupts in a non-SMP Lisp
must be modified to avoid incorrect results. While no modifications
are required until Allegro CL 9.0, we recommend that users start
making these modifications now. A patch just released for Allegro CL
8.1 implements new macros suitable for an SMP Lisp.

2. SFBay Lispniks meeting at Franz in Oakland, July 19th

San Francisco Bay Area Lispniks meeting at Franz in Oakland, July 19th
at 6:00 PM. Amit Rathore will give an introduction to Clojure, and
Peter Seibel will talk about the interviews from his new book Coders
at Work.

3. Franz's open source projects are hosted on github.com

Franz Inc. has published select bodies of Franz-developed code under
an Open Source license. We believe this will help teach Common Lisp
programmers to write better applications, demonstrate the uses of
Common Lisp to non-Common Lisp programmers, and give something to the
community that has supported us over the years.

4. RIP, Erik Naggum

Zach Beane has compiled links to a large number of Erik's posts that
show a small part of Erik's contributions to knowledge. Thanks Zach,
we'll all miss Erik.
