Software developers at PricewaterhouseCoopers chose Allegro CL to implement a knowledge-based audit planning application called Planet. The application helps PricewaterhouseCoopers audit professionals decide which audit procedures should be undertaken at a particular company, so that the audit is both effective and efficient.
With Allegro CL, PricewaterhouseCoopers was able to create this sophisticated knowledge-based system in one-third of the time expected. First, the programmers rapidly developed an early prototype of the automation system even before final specifications had been determined. Then, Allegro CL's ability to enable incremental changes allowed the system to quickly evolve to its final design through an interactive development process with in-house audit experts and users.
"Using Allegro CL and CLOS, we were able to quickly change the underlying structure of our program to reflect input from our knowledge experts, and reduced the time required to deploy the application," said Jeff Delisio, Research Scientist at PricewaterhouseCoopers's Technology Centre in Menlo Park, California.
The Planet application is helping PricewaterhouseCoopers dramatically reduce the time required to plan an audit - from several weeks to as little as one day.
PricewaterhouseCoopers' Comet application was also developed using Allegro CL. Comet handles modeling and analysis of business processes for building hierarchical, structured, textually annotated flowcharts describing a business process and its internal controls.
