1. New version of Allegro CL 8.1 Express

Allegro 8.1 Express is the free version of Allegro CL. It is available
for Windows, FreeBSD, Linux, and Mac OS X (for Intel processors). The
most important changes are:

* A 20% larger heap size: 60 Megabytes

* Automatic license retrieval on UNIX and Mac OS X

* update.exe is enhanced to get updates and patches
as well as update images, (Windows only)

* Fewer marketing message

Current Allegro CL Express users should simply update in the usual
way, using sys:update-allegro or, on Windows, the Download Patches
dialog. The new features will be available when the update is
complete.

2. 50th Birthday Celebration of Lisp - Monday, October 20

There are going to be more than one opportunity to pop the cork in
celebration of Lisp's 50th Birthday coming soon. Dan Weinreb has
mentioned on comp.lang.lisp the Association of Lisp Users (ALU) will
be celebrating sometime during the International Lisp Conference next
spring, details will be forthcoming. Richard Gabriel is providing the
details for a celebration on October 20th during the OOPSLA conference
in Nashville - John McCarthy has already agreed to give a talk about
the early history of Lisp. Richard, Guy Steele, Pascal Costanza and
others will also be giving talks.

Additionally, shooting photography of the celebration will be one of
the exercises of a workshop at OOPSLA on good conference photography
